A new exhibition currently on view at 33 Contemporary, A Poetic Responsedraws meaning from the deeply human endeavor of poetry and visual art. In many ways, these two art forms are the purest distillation of life, truth and personhood. While portraiture and figurative works make up a large portion of the show’s subject matter, viewers can also delve into the hidden meanings behind a variety of subjects.

Alexandra Telgmann, Golden Ocean Reflection - Ophelia, oil and 24ct of gold leaf on aluminum panel, 131/3 x 19½ in.
Artists in the show include Hayam Elsayed, Valerie Wolf, Shannon Fannin, Paola Charnet, Laurence O’Toole, Anna Cyan and more.
“A Poetic Responseplumbs the depths of intimacy between visual art and poetry—reflections between the two revealing the truths that make us who we are," says exhibition curator Samuel Peralta. "For what is art, what is poetry, but the essence of the human soul?”

Hayam Elsayed, Spirit Lead Me, oil on linen, 19¾ x 19¾ x 3 in.
In Angelika Weinekötter’s diptych Love Song - Which draws one voice out of two separate strings, two doves face each other in mid flight. The oil on linen is inspired by Rainer Maria Rilke’s poem “Love Song,” which Weinekötter says “speaks of the delicate, invisible connection between two souls.” She continues, “The doves represent two distinct beings joined by a quiet, resonant bond—like strings that only find their full voice when played together. These works explore the poetic tension between closeness and distance, individuality and unity, echoing the emotional undercurrent of Rilke’s verse.”

Valerie Wolf, A Crown For A Girl, oil on panel, 24 x 18 in.
A woman rests on the surface of the ocean in Alexandra Telgmann’s dazzling Golden Ocean Reflection - Ophelia, painted with oil and gold leaf on aluminum panel. “My art captures the ocean’s beauty and fragility, blending light, movement and underwater reflections to inspire a deeper connection with our planet and a call to protect its marine life,” says the artist. Telgmann’s paintings invite viewers to pause, breathe and connect with the ocean’s beauty while inspiring awareness for marine conservation.

Angelika Weinekötter, Love Song - Which draws one voice out of two separate strings (diptych), oil on linen, 16 x 8 in. each.
Brett Moffatt’s painting Bright Star is inspired by the John Keats poem of the same name. “When I first encountered Keats’ ‘Bright Star,’ I was struck by its exploration of the desire for eternal beauty—to be ‘stedfast’ and ‘unchangeable’ in a moment of perfect transcendence. This poem became the philosophical foundation for this portrait because it captures exactly what I’m trying to achieve through my work: preserving fleeting moments of Hollywood glamour in their most luminous form.”
A Poetic Response will be on view at 33 Contemporary’s Palm Beach County location through August 22. —
